Hertford College, Oxford and the Faculty of Law, in the Social Sciences Division of the University of Oxford, are recruiting an Associate Professor of Law. The successful applicant will be expected to teach tutorials for at least three undergraduate papers in law for the college, of which two will be in core subjects, and to give lectures and undertake graduate teaching and supervision for the faculty.
The appointment is permanent on completion of a successful review during the first five years.
The duties of the Fellowship will involve a substantial element of teaching and research as well as some administrative duties.
The college’s preference is for someone willing and able to teach at least two of the following core subjects: Contract Law, Tort Law, Land Law, Trusts, Roman Law, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, and European Law.

The appointee will be jointly responsible, with Dr Kate Greasley, for undergraduate teaching in Law at Hertford from 2019-20. The tutorial teaching load for the college will be an average of eight hours per week in pairs and small classes over each term. The successful candidate will also assist with the pastoral care of undergraduates, share responsibility for the admissions exercise for undergraduate Law courses, engage in advanced study and research, contribute to the academic life and activities of the college, and, as a Fellow, attend relevant committees and take an appropriate share of administrative duties. Furthermore, for the faculty and under the direction of the Faculty of Law, the appointee will give no fewer than sixteen lectures in each academic year.
Candidates will hold a doctorate in a relevant subject, or an established record of accomplishment in legal research, and a record of high quality research and publications commensurate with their career experience. Candidates will need to demonstrate outstanding research excellence and excellent teaching ability. The salary will be on Grade 10a (39S) of the University scale, currently £47,263 - £63,463 per annum. The precise sum will depend on qualifications and experience, and will be pensionable with USS. The Fellow will be entitled to an office in college, membership of the College’s Senior Common Room (SCR) with full Fellows’ dining rights, and allowances for housing (currently £9,437 p.a.), research, computer equipment and entertainment.
