Heads of Division have been invited by the Board of Management of the Astor Travel Fund to make recommendations for appointments to Astor Visiting Lectureships and Astor Lectureships for the calendar year 2023. Up to six recommendations may be made by each division.

Astor Visiting Lectureships (In-person visits)
Astor Visiting Lectureships provide funding for visits by distinguished academics from the United States for up to one week. The application form for this opportunity can be downloaded here

Astor Lectureships
The Astor Lectureship provides an honorarium of £500 for distinguished academics from the United States to engage in a series of virtual events, to include; a lecture and time spent closely interacting with the hosting department, in a remote capacity, for up to one week. In view of the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of the lecturers’ activities, the Board asks that recommendations for lectureships be made by Heads of Division. The application form for this opportunity can be downloaded here.

Lectureships are awarded on a competitive basis. Departments making two or more nominations must indicate their order of priority and the reasons for the rankings. If a proposed visit, in-person or virtual visit, would be of interest to other disciplines, the host department should discuss this with the other relevant departments prior to submission of the recommendation. Awards are made with the expectation that the nominee will be available to give the lecture during the award year. Deferrals will be considered in exceptional circumstances and may be allowed for a maximum of one year, after which period a new application will need to be submitted.

How to Apply
An application form should be returned in respect of each visiting, or virtual visiting lecturer, accompanied by a brief biographical summary of up to one page highlighting career achievements of the proposed visitor (full CVs are not required by the Astor Board). All applicants should contact research@law.ox.ac.uk or their centre administrator in CSLS or BIHR. All Faculty applications will be reviewed, approved and submitted by the research admin team to the Divisional office. Please send in applications by Friday 21st October 2022.
