Career Development Fellowship in Law - New College

Closing date: 26 April 2016

New College invites applications for a Career Development Fellowship in Law (to be held as a Supernumerary Fellowship) for three years from 1 October 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Fellowship is intended to provide the college with teaching in law and support for the Senior Law Fellow in running the law programme, whilst also offering an opportunity for continuing research to an outstanding academic at an early stage of his or her career. Applicants will be expected to have a first degree in a subject area appropriate to the Fellowship, normally at First Class honours level, and should either have a DPhil/PhD, or have submitted or be about to submit their thesis.

The Fellow will be based at New College in Oxford and will be expected to engage in research, to offer six hours per week tutorial teaching for New College, and to participate in teaching organisation, pastoral care and undergraduate admissions. Candidates are expected to offer teaching in the public law subjects (constitutional law and administrative law), and to indicate whether there are any additional subjects which they would be willing and able to teach. They will be a member of Governing Body and required to take a normal part in the administration of College, may also be nominated for membership of the Faculty of Law, and may be required to act as a College Adviser for graduate students at New College.

The formal selection criterion for the post is scholarship that demonstrates a substantial contribution to the subject, or potential for such, with an ability to communicate ideas, and evidence of ability to teach undergraduate students across a range of topics in the advertised area of the post at the highest level, especially through tutorials.

The appointment will be paid on a scale from point 1 £32,215 to point 4 £33,344 p.a. and the Fellow may expect the stipend to rise by one point per year. The successful candidate will also receive the Fellows Allowance of £3,355 p.a., a research and book allowance of £1,550 p.a., and an entertainment allowance of £215 p.a.. As a member of Governing Body and of the Senior Common Room, they will be entitled to full rights of commons during term and vacation.
