Demystifying Oxford Law Admissions Virtual Workshops Sept/Oct 2021
Deadline for applications: Friday 27 August 2021
The Law Faculty is looking to appoint one or more graduate Law students to assist Andrew Higgins, Access & Outreach Co-ordinator, to deliver virtual visits to state school pupils thinking about applying to Law at Oxford.
The visits are designed to demystify the Oxford law admissions process and provide interview and LNAT (Law National Aptitude Test https://lnat.ac.uk/) workshops to students from non-selective state schools. The visits will prioritise schools serving areas with high levels of socio-economic disadvantage and/or low progression to higher education. For more information about this new faculty initiative see please see our news item on demystifying Oxford law admissions.
Duties of appointees will include conducting demonstration interviews, conducting interview and LNAT workshops (working through an interview scenario and LNAT sample questions in small groups), and helping organise the virtual visits. Experience in holding interviews is desirable but not necessary. Students can design their own interview scenarios, or use one provided by the faculty.
The virtual visits will be conducted in September and the first half of October 2021 and will be conducted entirely online.
No one will be required to work more than 8 hours a week, and for a maximum of 12 weeks in total. This will be paid at the standard Grade 6 rate of £15.37 per hour (based on point 1), and in additional will £1.86 in lieu of paid holiday per hour worked (= total of £17.23/hour).
Any enquiries about the position can be emailed to Andrew Higgins (Andrew.higgins@law.ox.ac.uk).
Please e-mail a short application to recruitment@law.ox.ac.uk explaining your interest in this work, and setting out any interview and/or teaching experience, any relevant experience in access & outreach initiatives either at Oxford or other universities, and any restrictions on your ability to work during the above period, as well as the name of at least one referee. Please include the reference ‘Demystifying Oxford Law Admissions’ in the subject line of your e-mail.
