About the event
All research students (MPhil/DPhil) working on human rights law at Oxford are warmly invited to join us for our third session this term. During the meeting, two MPhil/DPhil students working in the broadly defined field of human rights law will deliver presentations about their research projects and receive feedback from peers and faculty members. Following the meeting, there will be a social event with wine, nibbles and refreshments for all participants.
During our first session this term, we are delighted to invite you to a workshop entitled: ‘What I Wish I Knew About Publishing’: Insights During and Beyond Research Journeys in Human Rights Law at Oxford’. The session will explore the journeys of academic publishing both during and after completing graduate research in human rights law at Oxford. Designed for researchers working in the field of human rights law, the workshop will provide insights from three perspectives – a scholar currently navigating the process of publishing their work shortly after completing their research degree, a scholar who has recently published a monograph building on her doctoral research, and a senior scholar who published her doctoral research some years ago.
The session will feature an engaging conversation that brings together former graduate students of the BGRF with experiences in academic publishing, offering insights during and beyond their research journeys at Oxford. Tailored for current graduate researchers working in human rights law, the discussion will delve into key considerations for publishing, including practical challenges, strategic decisions, and the enduring impact of publishing choices. Attendees will be able to ask questions and gain valuable guidance from those who are navigating or have navigated the path before them.
It will be highly interactive event, and we have a great panel lined up. Our first speaker – Fiona de Londras –is the Barber Professor of Jurisprudence at the Birmingham Law School and the editor of the Human Rights Law Review. Our second speaker – Dr Naomi Lott – is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Reading and a Visiting Lecturer at UCL. She recently completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights. Our final speaker –Dr Nomfundo Ramalekana – is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town Law Faculty.
