Can Barristers Be the Holy Grail for Litigation?

We are pleased to share an exciting opportunity hosted by the Faculty of Law in collaboration with Whitestone Chambers, a 21st century dynamic team of lawyers and managers.

Workshop Outline and Details

This interactive workshop for students will explore the evolving role of barristers as C 21st lawyers in modern litigation, financing and case strategy; given that the UK is now one of the most deregulated legal systems in the world. Through practical group exercises, participants will step into the shoes of litigation planners, using the Precedent H to model the financing of a complex, high-value cases.

By working collaboratively, students will tackle the commercial realities behind strategic litigation — from advocating costs to assessing proportionality and case viability as if they were appearing in the Royal Courts of Justice.

The session will also look at how barristers are moving into a more front‑line role with clients, taking on greater responsibility for managing cases and costs.

Whether you aspire to the Bar or to a solicitor’s practice, this talk and workshop offers a hands-on insight into how financial literacy and cost forecasting can shape litigation outcomes and redefine the barrister’s role in today’s legal marketplace.

The workshop will be led by Lawrence Power, who has served as Head of Chambers at Whitestone Chambers. As CEO of Whitestone Chambers, Lawrence has spent over 20 years leading the team and handling numerous high-value, complex cases across aviation, banking and commercial law. The barristers who practice at Whitestone offer expert legal advice and excel in navigating complex legal landscapes and advocating for clients.

Beyond his legal practice, Lawrence is committed to fostering the next generation of legal professionals to open new pathways to the Bar. His mentorship efforts were recognised with the United Kingdom “Gen Z Supporter of the Year” Award, voted for by members of the public and a reflection of his dedication for ‘being there’ for emerging legal talent.

A complimentary afternoon tea will be served for all in attendance.
