A Career Involving the Court of Protection

Join us for an interactive one-hour workshop exploring what it’s like to build a career working with the Court of Protection.

It is a unique opportunity presented by the Faculty of Law in collaboration with 5 Stone Buildings, a leading set of chancery chambers based in Lincoln's Inn.

This session will give you insight into roles that involve making decisions on behalf of individuals who lack the capacity to make decisions for themselves.

The workshop will be led by Ruth Hughes KC. Ruth was called to the bar in 2007 and took silk in 2025.  She practises from 5 Stone Buildings, a traditional Chancery set of chambers.  There are three main aspects to her work: (1) Court of Protection, (2) Trusts and Estates and (3) Tax.  The Court of Protection work predominantly concerns the property  of people who lack capacity.  However, she does do some health and welfare work too, including in relation to capacity to marry and international abduction of vulnerable adults.  She often acts for the person who lacks capacity through their litigation friend, the Official Solicitor. In addition she has also represented 22 highly endangers Chinses tigers in a divorce and assisted the CPS to obtain the £75m final restraint orders on Baroness Mone which have been highly publicised.

Only 35 spaces are available for the workshop -  don’t miss out!

A complimentary Afternoon Tea will be served for all those in attendance.
