Giulio Fornaroli, is Polonez/Marie Skłodowska–Curie Fellow at the Interdiscilplinary Centre for Ethics, Jagiellonian University, in Krakow, and will be presenting the third paper of Michaelmas Term: “Corrective Justice, Damages, and the Liberal State”.

This seminar takes place in Massey Room, at Balliol College, University of Oxford (Broad St, Oxford OX1 3BJ) at 5:00pm on Thursday 31 October.

Abstract

In this presentation, I defend two theses. The first is that the idea that corrective duties has anything to do with the reparation of material damages is deeply misguided. Which shows that a popular justification for reparative practices in the law is also misguided. The second is that a system of damage reparations within a liberal state should not even aspire to merely incorporate demands of corrective justice into the law. Instead, a system of damage reparations should be sensitive to demands of both corrective and distributive justice and possibly also concerns of respect for personal autonomy.

This event is open to anyone. No registration needed.

Pre-reading is desirable and strongly suggested, but not a requirement to attend.
