About the event
This session is a Special Rapporteurs (SRs) roundtable with existing as well as previous SRs who teach on the MSc and Summer School in IHRL. The SRs will address questions on a range of topics including what happens at handover from one SR to the next, what role jus cogens has in their work (if any), and examples of best practice.
About the speakers
Olivier De Schutter is the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights. He is a tutor on the MSc International Human Rights Law, University of Oxford, and Professor at the University of Louvain (UCLouvain) Belgium.
Nazila Ghanea is the UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief. She is a Professor of International Human Rights Law, University of Oxford and Course Director of the MSc in International Human Rights Law.
David Kaye was the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression. He's a tutor on the Summer School in International Human Rights Law, University of Oxford. He is also a Clinical Professor of Law, University of California, Irvine.
John Knox was the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment. He is a tutor on the MSc International Human Rights Law, University of Oxford. He's also a Professor of International Law, Wake Forest University, North Carolina.
Ahmed Shaheed is a tutor on the MSc International Human Rights Law, University of Oxford. He is also a lecturer in Human Rights, School of Law and Human Rights Centre, University of Essex.
Alexandra Xanthaki is the UN Special Rapporteur on cultural rights. She is a tutor, Summer School in International Human Rights Law, University of Oxford; Professor of Laws & Director of Research at Brunel University.
