The fund is being administered by Innovate UK and the Research Councils until the new body UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is formed in 2018.
The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund is part of government’s Industrial Strategy, the long-term plan to raise productivity and earning power in the UK.
It will invest in the world-leading research base and highly-innovative businesses to address the biggest industrial and societal challenges today.
What is the Fund?
The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund is a core pillar in the government’s commitment to increase funding in research and development by £4.7 billion over 4 years to strengthen UK science and business. T
The challenges have been informed by industry and are where:
- we already have world-leading research and businesses that are ready to innovate
- the global market is large or fast-growing and sustainable
- New challenges will be added here as more information becomes available.
Six challenges have been selected to receive fund support so far: healthcare and medicines; robotics and artificial intelligence; clean and flexible energy; driverless vehicles; manufacturing and materials of the future; satellites and space technology.
Information on Applying
Information about further challenges, future engagement activities and how to access funding for researchers will be published on the Research Councils UK website as it is announced.
