Internship Scheme in Office of the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland
The Office of the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland invites applications for the Late Summer Internship Scheme, taking place from the 1 - 18 September 2020.
One internship in the Office of the Lord Chief Justice will be offered to a student who will in September 2020 enter his/her final year of a qualifying law degree at any UK or Irish university and who wishes to obtain experience of the workings of a court in Northern Ireland. The placement, which is unremunerated, will be filled competitively on submission of the attached application form.
The successful candidate will be placed in the Lord Chief Justice’s Legal Unit, Royal Courts of Justice, Chichester Street, Belfast BT1 3JF where he or she will have the opportunity to observe High Court and Court of Appeal proceedings. The candidate may also assist in providing legal advice to the High Court judiciary as well as participating in the work of the Office of the Lord Chief Justice.
The intern will be offered at least five days’ court observation during the three week internship, and will have the opportunity to undertake a range of tasks within the Office of the Lord Chief Justice. He/she may, depending on workload, also have the opportunity to assist the sitting judges.
Completed application forms should be submitted by e-mail by 12 noon on 20 March 2020.
The successful candidate will need a letter of support from his/her university together with an undertaking that insurance cover will be in place during the placement. Failure to receive these will result in the candidate’s application being ruled ineligible. Internships are conditional on university support.
