Mandela World Human Rights Moot Coach 2020

The Oxford Law Faculty invites applications for the position of Coach for the team representing the University of Oxford in the 12th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition 2020, to be held in Geneva (or, if necessary, online via video-link) between 7-11 December 2020. The previous holder of this post needed to step down and the Faculty is now seeking to appoint a replacement. 

 

The Competition, which is open to both undergraduate and master’s degree law students, is presented by the Centre for Human Rights, based at the University of Pretoria, with the support of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, in collaboration with the Regional Office for Southern Africa of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (ROSA). The team consist of two students, who were selected internally through the Blackstone Human Rights Moot competition. 

 

The duties of the Coach include, but are not limited to: (i) providing the team with general instruction on the basic principles of human rights law, research sources, and methods; (ii) organising and recruiting judges for participation in practice moots; (iii) providing general advice on oral advocacy techniques; (iv) assisting with managing the moot budget; and (v) organisational and administrative responsibilities for participation in the competition.

 

The Coach will be chosen on the basis of previous mooting experience; interest and expertise in the areas of human rights law; and organisational and leadership skills. The Coach will be paid a stipend of £814.
