Bettina Lange given title of full Professor in recent Recognition of Distinction exercise

The annual Recognition of Distinction exercise confers the title of full Professor on those selected. This year we congratulate Bettina Lange on being made Professor of Law and Regulation.

Professor Lange’s research addresses the potential for and limits to state law as a mode of regulation. Her research builds on social-theoretical perspectives, including discourse analysis, and qualitative empirical data sets in order to explore environmental regulation ‘in action’. Her research has been funded by UK-Research and Innovation, the British Academy, the German Academic Exchange Service and the John Fell Fund.

Her most recent Leverhulme Trust funded project with Dr. Julius Schneider explores the evolution of crisis governance in the context of flooding and pandemics. Bettina was awarded a Teaching Excellence Award for supervision of graduate students by the Social Sciences Divisional Board in 2023.

Recognition of Distinction Awards are assessed using three criteria: a research record which shows significant influence, recognition and excellence in the chosen field; a record of effective teaching and involvement in University administration; ‘good citizenship’ activities such as holding a college or University office, service on committees, leadership in equality and diversity.
