Call for Applications - OPBP Executive Committee

Deadline: Friday, 8 November 2024

Oxford Pro Bono Publico (OPBP), the Oxford Law Faculty’s award-winning pro bono research group, is looking for graduate students with a passion for pro bono legal research, to join its Executive Committee for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Through its projects, OPBP provides high-quality comparative and international law research for non-governmental organisations, expert opinions, amicus curiae briefs, policy submissions, and more. OPBP also manages an internship scheme in partnership with the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights. Over the years, OPBP has contributed to the work of many eminent organisations such as the Human Rights Watch, the Equal Rights Trust, Reprieve, the World Health Organisation, and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons. You can find out more about OPBP's previous projects here

Serving on the OPBP Executive Committee is an incredible opportunity to work at the forefront of public law, human rights law and international law. Past members of the Executive Committee have gone on to pursue distinguished careers at the bar, in academia, in international organisations/courts, and public policy.

Applications are now open for the following positions on the Executive Committee:

  1. Chairperson
  2. Deputy Chairperson
  3. Communications Officer
  4. IT Officer
  5. Treasurer
  6. Internship Officer
  7. Research Officer

[Please note that it is possible to have co-chairpersons and multiple research officers. Please also note that the specific positions of Communications Officer, IT Officer, Treasurer, and Internships Officer also entail being research officers. Research Officers take on the role of a Project Coordinator during the timeline of a particular project. Project Coordinators drive the projects, and act as the primary contact point between the OPBP Executive Committee, volunteers and project partners.]

In your application, you are welcome to indicate that you are applying for a specific position, but if you are not sure which position you would prefer, you can leave this open.

 Eligibility

Ideally, candidates should have a background in (public interest) law, although this is not a prerequisite. It is advantageous but not mandatory that applicants are currently enrolled in a programme at the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. Applicants from other Oxford faculties and departments with a background in law and/or passion for public interest litigation are also encouraged to apply. Applicants with IT competencies will be prioritised for the positions of Communications and IT Officers.
