Professor Nazila Ghanea gives evidence on human rights to Canadian Senate

Professor Nazila Ghanea has given evidence before the Senate of Canada's Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights (le Comité sénatorial permanent des droits de la personne) as part of its study of Bill C-9, an Act to amend the Criminal Code in relation to hate propaganda, hate crime, and access to religious or cultural places.

Professor Ghanea, Professor of International Human Rights Law at Oxford, appeared alongside Terry Teegee, Regional Chief of the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations. Her comments drew attention to relevant international human rights obligations and soft law standards and experiences, and focused on hate speech and access to sites of significance to religion and belief communities.
