Research Assistant for Editing Book, “Equity Today: 150 Years After the Judicature Reforms

Professor Ben McFarlane is looking for a Research Assistant to assist with preparing chapters for publication in a book “Equity Today: 150 Years After the Judicature Reforms”, which will be based on papers delivered at a conference taking place in St John’s College on 1-2 April 2022.
Duration and hours
Total number of hours of work available: 100
Maximum number of hours of work per week: 8 hours (overall average).
Start date: 11 July 2022
Date by which the work must be completed: 30 September 2022
Reporting
The Research Assistant will report to Professor Ben McFarlane.
Role
The Research Assistant will be responsible for ensuring that submitted chapters comply with the publisher’s style guide and may also be required to compile tables of cases and legislation.
Requirements
Essential
- Prior knowledge of, or willingness to familiarise yourself with, the Hart Publishing style guide
- Strong editing skills and attention to detail
- Research skills and initiative to resolve queries yourself where possible
- Ability to work well to a deadline and to maintain a friendly and professional attitude in dealing with authors and publishers
- Ability to liaise effectively with authors
- Knowledge of and interest in private law.
Desirable
- Experience in editing materials for publication.
- Knowledge and expertise in equity as a field of law.
Eligibility
This position is open to current graduate research students in the Law Faculty and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students. It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK.
Rate of Pay
12 weeks or less (casual engagement): This will be paid at the standard research assistant rate of £15.60 per hour (based on Grade 6 point 1) plus holiday pay of £1.88 per hour worked (= total of £17.48/hour).
Funding
This is funded by the Higher Studies Fund.
