Research Assistant at the Institute of European and Comparative Law

The Institute of European and Comparative Law is looking for a research assistant to provide up to 15 hours of editorial assistance to the Oxford University Comparative Law Forum (checking and formatting academic texts and preparing them for online publication) on a flexible basis during Trinity Term 2022. Applicants should be native English speakers or have an equivalent level of language competency in English. Prior editorial experience, an acquaintance with the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) and previous exposure to comparative law projects are desirable.
Duration and hours
Total number of hours of work available: 15
Start date: 9 May 2022 earliest
Date by which the work must be completed: end of August or 12 weeks after commencement of the position (whichever is the earlier).
Reporting
The Research Assistant will report to Professor Birke Häcker and will also work remotely with Professor Gerhard Dannemann (Humboldt University, Berlin).
Requirements
- Excellent command of the English language (native speaker or equivalent level) is essential.
- Good IT and internet skills are required.
- Prior editorial experience in academic writing is highly desirable.
- Excellent knowledge of the Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) is highly desirable.
- Previous exposure to or experience with comparative law is desirable.
Eligibility
This position is open to current graduate research students in the Law Faculty and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students. It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK.
Rate of Pay
12 weeks or less (casual engagement): This will be paid at the standard research assistant rate of £15.60 per hour (based on Grade 6 point 1) plus holiday pay of £1.88 per hour worked (= total of £17.48/hour).
Funding
This position is funded by the Institute of European and Comparative Law.
