Professor Donal Nolan is looking for a research assistant to help with updating Lunney, Nolan and Oliphant’s Tort Law: Text and Materials. The work will involve preparing extracts from cases and other materials, as well as tracking down source materials.

Duration and hours

Total number of hours of work available: 30 hours in total.

Maximum number of hours of work per week (or explain variable arrangements): It’s anticipated that you will work for up to 6 hours in any given week.

The work is to start 1st November 2020 and will run until 31st January 2021 (duration of appointment is strictly limited to 12 weeks).


The Research Assistant will report to Donal Nolan.


  • A good knowledge and understanding of English tort law is essential.
  • Prior experience of preparing extracts from cases and other materials for publication is desirable.
  • The work can be done anywhere and any meetings that are required can take place online.


This position is open to current graduate research students in the Law Faculty and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students.  It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK.

Rate of Pay

12 weeks or less (casual engagement): This will be paid at the standard research assistant rate of £15.37 per hour (based on Grade 6 point 1) plus holiday pay of £1.86 per hour worked (= total of £17.23/hour).
