Research Coordinator, Oxford Human Rights Hub (OxHRH)

Prof. Sandy Fredman is looking for a suitable candidate to join the Oxford Human Rights Hub Team as Research Coordinator. Since its launch in July 2012, the OxHRH has fast become a leading source of human rights legal analysis and news, featuring blog posts from leading judges, lawyers, academics and human rights activists from across the globe. It has established a large readership and a strong social media following, with approximately 10,000 unique visitors to the Oxford Human Rights Hub website per month and over 8,000 followers on Twitter. The OxHRH also runs high level seminars, conferences, webinars and webcasts having featured judges, UN Special Rapporteurs, leading academics, QCs and public interest law practitioners from across the world.

The successful candidate will continue to develop all communications for the OxHRH, maintaining high standards by widening the OxHRH’s reach and disseminating new developments and research partnerships relating to human rights law. She or he will regularly interact with our large global network of stakeholders as well as helping to develop the website and update the Faculty of Law’s website where necessary. Key to the success of this role, the post holder will be responsible for the organisation of termly seminars, workshops and conferences by working closely with other members of the OxHRH team, particularly the Managing Editor and Deputy Director. There is an expectation that you will liaise with and visiting speakers, the Communications Manager and Events Coordinator at the Faculty of Law and form collaborative links with other third party organisations to promote the work of the OxHRH.

Duration and hours

The work is to start as soon as possible and will run until 30th June 2017.

The hours will vary, but it is expected that you will work a maximum of 16 hours a month. You should be prepared to work during vacations but does not need to be based in Oxford during this time.

Reporting

The post holder will report to Professor Sandy Fredman.

Requirements

 Candidates are required to have:

  • A completed first degree, specialising in Law;
  • Knowledge of  human rights law, global human rights news and developments; 
  • Ability to translate legal and human rights developments into a format that appeals to a global audience with varying interests and knowledge of the subject;
  • Good administration, coordination and IT skills with some experience of coordinating a team;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • The ability to deal sensitively with authors, audience and other stakeholders;
  • Excellent team working (both within a research team and administrative environment) with strong networking skills.

It would be beneficial, but not essential for candidates to have:

  • Experience and skills in planning and managing projects;
  • Experience of recruiting and training staff;
  • Experience of co-ordinating cross-functional teams.

Eligibility

This post is open to current graduate research students in the Law Faculty and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students.  Regrettably this position is not open to BCL/MJur and MLF students.

Rate of Pay

This will be paid at the standard research assistant rate of £14.01/hour plus holiday pay of £2.40 = total of £16.41/hour. **
