Senior Research Fellow in the Law and Governance of Net Zero, School of Geography and the Environment

We are seeking a Senior Research Fellow to lead on Oxford Net Zero which is a new initiative drawing on the University’s world-leading expertise in climate science and policy. The initiative will provide research and resources for policymakers and businesses at this critical juncture for international action on climate change. We seek an innovative and versatile independent researcher with an entrepreneurial academic mindset and the desire and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

 

The successful candidate will lead the Law and Governance of Net Zero workstream of Oxford Net Zero, as well as working with the Directors and other Fellows to develop a vibrant cross-University network including associated academics and students. You will engage in research and publication at the highest level of climate change law and policy. You will initiate, implement and deliver innovative and high-value, legal and interdisciplinary research initiatives with a focus on the law and governance of net zero, and contribute to cross-cutting Oxford Net Zero activities including assessments of global progress towards net zero, short education courses and programmatic reports. You will also provide academic supervision for research students and contribute to lectures and teaching.

 

You must hold a relevant PhD/DPhil and an established reputation as an authority in the field. You will have a strong academic publication record, and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field. Evidence of potential for producing further research of world-leading quality in climate change law and policy, particularly the law and governance of net zero, during the tenure of the post is essential. You will have strong team-working skills and a desire to work in a multidisciplinary research setting, displaying a capacity for impactful engagement with stakeholders, as well as an ability to build new partnerships and win significant grants.

This is a full-time post for 4 years. While this is a full-time role we can support flexible working arrangements (for instance if you have caring responsibilities) in agreement with the Director.
