UKRI: Modern slavery in the UK and wider laws and policies

Deadline (EOI): 12 November 2021

Apply to the AHRC and ESRC for funding to explore the ways legal and policy frameworks in the UK are implicated in modern slavery and to support strategic thinking in the design or redesign of policies to better safeguard against modern slavery. The first stage of this funding opportunity is managed by the Modern Slavery PEC. See the full opportunity details on the Modern Slavery PEC website.

Funding and Duration - The full economic cost of the project can be up to £250,000 and last up to 12 months. AHRC and ESRC will fund 80% of the full economic cost.

Eligibility - Prospective PIs must be an eligible researcher from either a UK higher education institution (HEI) or an approved independent research organisation (IRO). Projects should aim to provide new evidence of how modern slavery is affected by laws and policies around areas such as immigration and asylum, the labour market, sex work, safeguarding in health and social protection, criminal justice (e.g. drug policies), and international development and foreign policy.

Webinar - The Modern Slavery PEC will hold a webinar for prospective applicants at 12.30pm on 21 October 2021 to provide them with the opportunity to hear more about the Modern Slavery PEC and its strategic objectives and principles, offer an overview of the call, and give more information on how the successful bid team will collaborate with the Modern Slavery PEC during the research. Prospective applicants can register by following this link.

How to Apply - This call will be run through a two-stage process. Stage one will consist of an expression of interest (click link to open form), submitted to the Modern Slavery PEC (deadline: 12 November 2021). The second stage will involve a full application submitted through the AHRC Je-S system.

Full information on the application process and assessment criteria can be found in the call document.
