Using Sympletic for REF 2021
19th February 2019, 14:00-15:30
White & Case Lecture Room, St Cross Building, Law Faculty
Symplectic Elements (SE) is the University's research information management system. It captures, stores and reuses information about researchers, research outputs (bibliographic and bibliometric), grants, and impact.
It provides data to support assessment, dissemination, open access, and reporting activities, including:
- the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021
- departmental webpages
- ‘Act on acceptance’
- Researchfish collections
The system is easy to use and there is a lot of administrative support to help researchers navigate this system.
This workshop will be structured as follows:
2-2.30pm: Uploading and depositing journal articles and conference papers in Sympletic for REF 2021
In order to be eligible for REF 2021, the final peer-reviewed version of journal articles and conference papers (in publications with an ISSN) must be deposited in an open access repository within three months of acceptance for publication. The REF open access policy aims to ‘increase substantially the amount of scholarly material that is made available in an open-access form’. Karen Eveleigh (Research Facilitator at the Law Faculty) and Upasna Rai (acting Research Administrator) will show researchers how to use Sympletic to upload and deposit journal articles and conference papers in Sympletic, to claim publications already in Sympletic, and to answer queries about this process.
2.30-3pm: Creating a Record of Impact in Sympletic and recording evidence of Impact for REF 2021 Impact Case Studies
Symplectic Elements can record elements of research impact including evidence and possibly important data on events and milestones for potential REF 2021 impact case studies. Dr. Elizabeth Hodges, one the Division's Research Impact Facilitators, and Upasna Rai will show users how to create a record of impact in Sympletic and capture important evidence of impact.
3-3.30pm - Q&A
If we haven't answered your query about Sympletic, now is the time to ask and we will do our best to help you!
Please note this workshop is primarily for Law Faculty researchers. However, it is open to other researchers from the Social Sciences Division who are interested in using Sympletic. Please rsvp to research@law.ox.ac.uk to confirm your attendance and reserve a place at the workshop.
