Deputy Finance Manager
Grade 7: £34,308 - £42,155 per annum
The Faculty of Law seeks to appoint a Deputy Finance Manager, this is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly Finance team and help to deliver an excellent finance service to the Faculty of Law. It is a new role, created in response to recent expansion and in anticipation of further expansion and development of a wide range of new activities. The Faculty currently has a turnover of approximately £24m.
The postholder will have management oversight of the transactional finance operation and will support the Finance Manager to prepare and deliver on all of the financial planning and reporting activities of the Faculty. The Deputy Finance Manager will take a lead in budgeting, forecasting and monitoring for a number of discreet Faculty courses, centres and activities. The postholder will also champion compliance with University procedures and be responsible for initiatives to promote awareness of, and compliance with, financial assurance policies.
The Deputy Finance Manager will report to the Law Faculty Finance Manager. They will line manage two finance assistants, with the potential to line manage others as the new structure develops. They will work closely with the Head of Administration & Finance; the Dean, and other Faculty Officers; and maintain close links with the finance staff in the Social Sciences Division.
The successful applicant will be educated to degree level, with strong accounting knowledge, evidenced by a CCAB accounting qualification or progress to the final stages of qualification. (In exceptional circumstances account may also be taken of skills gained through experience); demonstrable experience of using technical finance skills in a relevant context, including management accounting and reporting, budgeting and financial planning, and the ability to analyse large and complex data sets; highly computer literate, with advanced spread sheet skills e.g. developing financial models, and a thorough understanding of financial systems, including experience of using such systems; self-motivated and organised: ability to set and meet objectives and standards on own initiative; ability to manage a range of tasks whilst meeting tight deadlines; proven ability to think about financial issues strategically and to contribute to decision making. Evidence of successful line management of staff; proven team leadership and motivational skills and experience in a Higher/Further Education or similar public sector organisation is desirable.
The post is permanent and full time. The postholder will be based in the Faculty of Law, St Cross Building, St Cross Road, Oxford, OX1 3UL.
