The presentation ‘Beyond unity?’ aims to interrogate the concept of ‘unity’ and to clarify its role within the European political and legal discourse. As a ‘Union’, the EU is evidently built on ‘unity’ and shall ensure ‘unity’. The raison d’être has been and still is to become ‘an ever closer union’. Yet, what does the concept of ‘unity’ in the context of the EU means today?
