In 2020, it will be 50 years since the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) came formally into existence; several years after this, it also gained the status of a specialised agency of the United Nations. In this presentation, the panel, led by Professor Ricketson, will discuss the events leading up to the foundation of WIPO and its subsequent successes and failures. In a time when the role of international organisations and international agreements generally are coming under widespread scrutiny and attack, what does the future hold for a body such as WIPO?
