Law Taster Day Undergraduate Ambassador (10 positions)

The Faculty of Law is seeking to engage up to ten Law Taster Day Undergraduate Ambassadors to assist the Access and Outreach Team during the Law Taster Days. This will take place from 16 to 18 March 2026.

The Law Taster Days provide prospective Year 12 students with a first-hand experience of life at Oxford, they attend lectures and seminars, meet practising lawyers, interact with current law students, and enjoy a college lunch and tour.

The 2026 Taster Days are scheduled for 16-17 March (in-person) with an online session on 18 March. Ambassadors may be asked to participate in both the in-person and online components of the Taster Days. This role is ideal for students interested in outreach, supporting prospective applicants and looking to contribute to widening access initiatives at Oxford.

Some of the tasks that the Ambassadors will be required to do include: 

  • Welcome attendees (Year 12 students) on arrival and assist with registration and check-in.
  • Be available to answer questions about studying law at Oxford, student life, admissions, and the application process.
  • Facilitate Q&A sessions and icebreaker activities, including during any online components of the Taster Days.
  • Support the logistics of the event (e.g. crowd flow, safety, guidance between venues, assisting with transitions between sessions).
  • Complete OSCP Safeguarding training online prior to the event.

Duration and hours 

In-person Taster Day: up to 8 hrs per day 

Online session: approximately 2 hours

Training: 1 hour online

Working hours: a total of up to 19 hours across the duration of the project, to be agreed with the Outreach Officer, including up to 1 hours of online training. 

Start date: Complete the OSCP Safeguarding training online & attend an online training session before the event – Date to be confirmed based on availability.

Date by which the work must be completed: 18 March 2026

The Law Taster Day Undergraduate Ambassadors will report to Emma White (Admissions & Outreach Officer)

Requirements

Essential

  • Currently studying for an undergraduate law degree here
  • Previous experience working with year 12 students (aged 16-17 years old)
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to act as a friendly and professional representative of the faculty.

Willingness to participate in safeguarding training and adhere to safeguarding protocols.

Desirable

  • Prop experience in outreach, mentoring or working with young people.
  • Familiarity with the admissions process, including entrance test (LNAT) and application procedures, to support prospective applicants.

Your normal place of work will be the St Cross Building, Oxford.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to current undergraduate students in the Faculty of Law.

Rate of Pay

The work will be paid at £14.51per hour, which equates to University Grade 3, point 4, on the basis of completed and approved timesheets, which must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the timesheet deadline for payment on the last working day of the following month.

In addition, paid annual leave will be assumed to be taken in the month in which it was accrued.

Guidelines for Faculty members, line managers and students

Work must not commence without a letter of engagement or variable hours contract and a right to work check having been carried out by the Faculty Personnel Officer.

Graduate student engagement opportunities in the Faculty of Law usually fall into one of three categories: Research AssistantGraduate Teaching Assistant; or Blog Editor

The University guidance on paid work for Oxford graduate students recommends that full-time graduate research students ensure that any paid work should still allow them to spend at least 40 hours per week for a minimum 44 weeks of the year on their studies. Full-time graduate taught students are recommended not to undertake more than 8 hours’ paid work each week during term-time study periods.  There are additional rules for students with visas wishing to undertake paid work. 

Students may not work for their own supervisor without the approval of the Associate Dean for Graduate Students.
