Professor Timothy Endicott, Dean of the Oxford Law Faculty, and Chris Parsons, chairman of the India group at Herbert Smith LLP, will each deliver a series of lectures at the National University of Judicial Sciences in Kolkata, from 21 February.

The five days of lectures are intended to be interactive, and will involve Mr Parsons lecturing on cross border mergers and acquisitions, while Professor Endicott speaks on ‘English common law, English public law’. It is anticipated that around 45-50 students will attend each lecture.

The series of lectures coincides with this year’s third edition of the annual NUJS Herbert Smith National Corporate Law Moot Court Competition. Professor James Edelman served as one of the judges for the Moot in 2010 (see[linkme]), and this year Professor Endicott will serve as a judge alongside Mr Parsons, Hardeep Nahal, a partner at Herbert Smith, and eminent members of the Indian bar and bench.

Professor Endicott and Mr Parsons gave a similar dual series of lectures at the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, in February 2010. The hope is that this lecture series will become an annual event, with the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law in Hyderabad as a potential host for next year.
