Grand Final of the Maitland Chambers (Cuppers) Mooting Competition

On Wednesday 15 February 2012, the Grand Final of the Maitland Chambers University of Oxford Inter-collegiate (Cuppers) Mooting Competition took place. The Grand Final concerned the circumstances in which a judge who has an interest in the outcome of a case can hear it and when parties to litigation can waive any objection that they might take to a judge sitting on a case on the grounds of bias.

The Finalists were Mr Gil-Ad Schwartz and Mr Matthew McGhee (representing Magdalen College) and Mr Hasan Dindjer and Mr Simon Teasdale (representing New College). The Rt Hon Sir Stephen Sedley PC presided at the Grand Final. Following a hotly contested moot, Sir Stephen awarded victory to the Magdalen team.

The Oxford Law Faculty is most grateful to Sir Stephen for supporting mooting at Oxford. The Faculty is also indebted to Maitland Chambers for generously sponsoring the Cuppers Mooting Competition.
