On 6 June 2012, the Institute of European and Comparative Law and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law renewed their academic partnership, which has existed since 2007, for a further five years. The new cooperative agreement was signed by Professor Dr Dr h.c. mult. Reinhard Zimmermann, Managing Director of the Max Planck Institute for Private Law, and by Professor Stefan Vogenauer, Director of the IECL. Since its inception, the two directors have overseen the programme as the coordinators for the respective German and English institutions. The cooperation allows academic staff members from the Max Planck Institute to undertake a year of independent research at the Oxford Law Faculty as the Max Planck Fellow and as a Research Associate at St Catherine's College. In return graduate students and faculty members from Oxford visit the Hamburg Institute for up to six months to conduct their own research projects.
