Reception and Book Launch

Invitation to a reception and book launch - 'The Law of State Immunity' (3rd edn) by Lady Fox CMG QC and Dr Philippa Webb with Dapo Akande (discussant). Hosted by the Public International Law Discussion Group on Monday 11 November 2013 in The Cube at 5.30pm.

Lady Fox CMG QC (Hazel), was formerly Director of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and General Editor of the International and Comparative Law Quarterly. She is a member of the Institut de Droit international; Bencher of Lincoln’ Inn; formerly Fellow in Law and now Honorary Fellow of Somerville College, University of Oxford; member of the ILA Committees on State Immunity, Diplomatic Protection, Reparation for Victims of War Damage; and Barrister at 4-5 Grays Inn Square.  Her publications include: (with J L Simpson) International Arbitration: law and procedure (1959); (Editor) International Law and Developing States Vol I (1988) and Vol II (1990); An Introduction to International Economic Law (1992); Joint Development of Offshore Oil and Gas: A Model Agreement for States for Joint Development with Explanatory Commentary Vol I (1989) and Vol II (1990); The Law of State Immunity (2002, 2nd edn 2008, 3rd edn 2013).

Dr Philippa Webb is Lecturer in Public International Law at King’s College London. She was previously visiting Assistant Professor in the Advanced LLM Programme at Leiden University (2009-2011). She has extensive experience in international organizations, particularly international courts. She served as the Special Assistant and Legal Officer to Judge Rosalyn Higgins during her Presidency of the International Court of Justice (2006-2009) and, prior to that, as the Judicial Clerk to Judges Higgins and Owada (2004-2005). She was the Associate Legal Adviser to the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (2005-2006). She has worked at the UN Secretariat in New York and in the Sydney and Tokyo offices of an international law firm. Her monograph, International Judicial Integration and Fragmentation (OUP) was published in May 2013. She holds a doctorate (JSD) and an LLM from Yale Law School and a BA(Hons)/LLB from the University of New South Wales, awarded with two University Medals.
