As Professor Andrew Burrows is this year’s President of the Society of Legal Scholars, the annual SLS conference for 2016 will be held in Oxford, at St Catherine’s College, September 6-9. The theme is ‘Legislation and the Role of the Judiciary’. The keynote plenary address will be given on Wednesday Sep 7 at 4.00-5.30pm by Lady Hale on the title ‘Legislation or judicial law reform: where should judges fear to tread? ’ followed by a reply from Professor Rob Stevens. Other plenary sessions examine ‘Modern Statutory Interpretation’ and ‘The Present and Future Work of the Law Commissions’. Fifty colleagues from across the UK have agreed to be keynote speakers in the 28 subject group sections.
Accommodation is primarily available at St Catherine’s College at £69 per night bed and breakfast; and there are dinners on the Tuesday and Thursday evenings at St Catherine’s (£30 including wine). Free pre-dinner drinks receptions on the Tuesday and Thursday evenings are to be held at Magdalen College and All Souls College. The annual conference dinner on the Wednesday evening will be at Lady Margaret Hall with (subject to alteration) Michael Gove MP, Lord Chancellor and Minister for Justice, being the guest speaker.
