Professor Les Green gives keynote address at the UK IVR

In October Professor Les Green gave a Keynote address at the UK IVR (Society for Social and Legal Philosophy) at the University of Leeds law school. The title was ‘Sovereignty vs Sovereignty’ and the address examined the ideas of popular sovereignty, parliamentary sovereignty, and state sovereignty - and some conflicts among the three.

Then, earlier in November, he gave the Dewey Lecture at the University of Chicago. The title was ‘Right Speech’. The principle of free speech governs how audiences should respond to speakers. He argued that there are also principles of ‘right speech’ that govern how speakers should address their audiences and others. The Lecture was notable in attempting to draw on classical Buddhist philosophy to cast light on some familiar problems in jurisprudence.
