Hilary Term Update

The St Cross Building project works are now nearing completion. The main building works are now complete and the contractors are now carrying out the final works to reinstate the car park and bike racks over the next few weeks.

Access to new areas

There is a new main staircase in the core of the building, which now leads up to the second and third floors, not just to the common room area.  There is also a new lift adjacent to the stairs, going to all floors. A new accessible entrance has been opened up to the right of the main steps outside, with a new ramp leading to it, and the lift can be accessed through this route.

Ground floor: the entrance to the English Faculty Office and Seminar Rooms A-C is now adjacent to Lecture Theatre 2, and can be reached either via the new accessible entrance or by descending the stairs from the main entrance on the first floor.

First floor: the entrance to the English Faculty Library is adjacent to the main reception desk, and the entrance to Criminology is to the right of the new stairs.

Second floor: the Law Board room and  some Law offices (Law & Finance and the Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre) are now situated behind the café area and refurbished Seminar Room L (formerly the SCR).

Third floor: the Institute for Comparative and European Law is at the top of the stairs, on the third floor.

New teaching spaces

A number of new teaching spaces are now open, these are:

Criminology Seminar Room – 1st floor

Law Board Room – 2nd floor

Seminar Room L – 2nd floor

IECL seminar room – 2nd floor

All of these rooms can be accessed using the new main lift or stairs opposite the building reception.

Café area

The café and common area has now reopened and you can find this space on the second floor, either by using the main lift or the new main stair case opposite the main building entrance and is open to all building users.

We are working hard on a coffee shop installation for next term and will send out details of this once confirmed, but unfortunately the Missing Bean will not be back in for the start of term.  Instead, there is a new vending machine area on the Ground Floor, down the corridor past the Gulbenkian, with hot and cold drinks machines, a snack machine and a water fountain.

Café facilities are also available in the next door Manor Road Building on the first floor, open Monday to Friday.  Breakfast is available 8:30 – 10:30am; lunch 12 – 2pm; and hot drinks, cakes and snacks from opening at 8:30am until closing at 5pm in term and 4pm in vacation. The Manor Road building also has vending machines, located on the first floor adjacent to the café.

Bike racks

Please note that the bike racks at the front and back of the building will be open to building users again in the next few weeks.

There are new toilet facilities on the 2nd floor, near to the common room. All of the toilets have now reopened and there are facilities on the Ground Floor, First Floor and Second Floor.

We are grateful to building users for their continued cooperation and understanding throughout the project.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Project Support Officer, Katie Light (katie.light@law.ox.ac.uk).
