Shearman & Sterling University of Oxford Moot Court Competition 2018
The Shearman & Sterling University of Oxford Moot Court Competition 2018 took place in Keble College on Friday 9 March 2018. The problem, for the first time, was based on property law and trusts. More specifically, it concerned the question of which approach would be the appropriate one to adopt where the personal relationship between the parties has a commercial aspect. The standard of mooting was very high, yielding some of the closest scores in the history of the competition.
The Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Sales, a former Lord Justice in the Court of Appeal of England and Wales. All the four finalists, Ms. Elena Johnson (Trinity) and Mr. Jordan Bernstein (Pembroke), and Mr. Thomas Foxton (Pembroke) and Mr. Matthew Hoyle (St. John’s), received praise from the bench for their skilled oratory and creative argument. Mr. Foxton and Mr. Hoyle emerged victorious.
