Treaties, Brexit, and the Constitution

On 23 March 2018, Ewan Smith co-convened the conference "Treaties, Brexit, and the Constitution". The conference was co-organised with Arabella Lang and Eirik Bjorge and funded by the Programme for the Foundations of Law and Constitutional Government, the House of Commons and Jesus College, Oxford. It brought together lawyers and practitioners from the Houses of Parliament and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, academics and judges, and proposed some practicable solutions to the problems presented by the disaggregation of Britain’s treaty obligations as we withdraw from the European Union. The convenors are currently working on outputs including a submission to the House of Lords Liaison Committee.

Holger Hestermeyer, Jill Barrett, Sylvia de Mars and Brigid Fowler speaking about Parliament’s role in negotiating, concluding and implementing treaty obligations.
