Judith Freedman appointed to the Board of the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS)

The Chancellor has appointed Professor Judith Freedman CBE to the Board of the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS), in succession to Paul Johnson CBE.

Judith said:

The UK tax system is notorious for its complexity. There is much work to do to make it fit for purpose and I am pleased to have this opportunity to be involved with this important work.

The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) is an independent Office of HM Treasury and advises the government on simplifying the UK tax system.  For example, it has recently been engaged in a review of Inheritance Tax and has reported on HMRC guidance and on the taxation of self-employed people in a changing world. The OTS board is led by an independent Chair and Tax Director, and has six further members, supported by a team drawn from the civil service and the private sector.

OTS Chair, Kathryn Cearns OBE said:

I am delighted to welcome Judith to the OTS Board. She will bring invaluable academic expertise, including a long-standing interest in tax simplification. She will strengthen the ability of the OTS to provide the government with advice on how to simplify the tax system.
