Memorial event held for Professor Roger Hood

On 24 September 2021, the Centre for Criminology and The Death Penalty Project hosted a memorial event in Oxford to celebrate the life and scholarship of Professor Roger Hood, who sadly passed away on 17 November 2020.

Professor Hood’s family, friends and colleagues gathered to celebrate his academic legacy and share their memories and experiences of working with him.

The event featured a series of short presentations, reflecting on his long and distinguished career and his extensive contributions to our understandings of crime, justice and penology.

This event also marked the official launch of the Death Penalty Research Unit, which builds on Professor Hood’s decades of academic and policy work on capital punishment around the world.
