The environmental law research group brings together the many Faculty members and students undertaking research on environmental law issues. That research is as diverse as the environmental problems that societies face. Water quality, climate change, nature conservation, environmental justice, energy efficiency, critical minerals, environmental courts, are just a few of the topics being researched. Scholars are exploring these issues in public and private law and at the national, EU, and international levels as well as in comparative perspective. Insights are also drawn from criminology, sociology, regulatory studies, and other disciplinary fields.

The research group aims to foster diverse and outstanding scholarship through its series of seminars, workshops, and outside speakers. In 2025-6 there were over 12 events including a half day workshop on ‘place'.

Any Law Faculty member working on environmental law issues (broadly defined) is welcome to become a member of the group. Email (with your Oxford email address) liz.fisher@law.ox.ac.uk to sign up.
