Ahlam Chemlali
Biography
Dr. Ahlam Chemlali is a postdoctoral researcher and Co-Director of the Centre for Coercion and Accountability (CECA) at Aalborg University. Her work examines borders, violence, gender, confinement, and migration governance across North Africa and the Mediterranean. Her research focuses on how European border regimes shape everyday life beyond formal border sites, producing enduring forms of immobilization, legal precarity, and urban marginalization. Drawing on long-term ethnographic research in North Africa and trans-Mediterranean fieldwork extending to Marseille, her scholarship develops original conceptual frameworks. Her work has been published in leading journals including American Ethnologist, Geopolitics, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Trends in Organized Crime, Forced Migration Review, and Revue Tunisienne de Science Politique.
