Giacomo Antonio Lombardi

Biography

Giacomo Antonio Lombardi is a Ph.D. candidate in Humanities & Technologies – Digital Law (IUS/21) at Suor Orsola Benincasa University of Naples (Italy), where he also works as a Teaching assistant in Comparative Public Law, Internet Public Law, Public Law, and School Law. He holds a Postgraduate Master’s Degree in Diplomatic Studies from SIOI – Società Italiana per l’Organizzazione Internazionale. He was previously a Visiting Ph.D. at the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) of Tilburg University (The Netherlands).

His research focuses on the legal implications of Wikipedia, the so-called ‘WikiLaw’. By analysing the ‘free encyclopedia’ through a socio-legal lens, Giacomo aims to reconstruct the various normative and regulatory issues arising, with particular attention to underdeveloped aspects, whilst attempting to develop possible solutions. The work addresses a range of legal questions, spanning from misinformation and fake news to the right to be forgotten, with specific relevance to the EU DSA.

During his stay at the CSLS, he will primarily focus on the phenomena of Wikimedian self-government and self-regulation, with particular emphasis on content liability and platform governance. His research methodology combines comparative and transnational perspectives with in-depth knowledge of the Wikipedia ecosystem: Giacomo has been a Wikipedian for nearly fifteen years, and has spent a six-month research period at Wikimedia Italia.

His research output has been presented both at academic venues and at Wikimedia events.
