Mohammed Al-Sulaiti

Biography

Mohammed is a PhD researcher funded by Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council (QRDI Council)  at Imperial College London’s Centre for Environmental Policy, pursuing a doctorate supervised by Ms Karen E. Makuch and co-supervised by Dr Zen Makuch (2019 - present). He has recently joined the University of Oxford's Centre for Socio-Legal Studies as Visiting Recognised Student for both Hillary and Trinity Terms (2023) under the supervision of Dr Nicole Stremlau and Dr Bettina Lange.

His research areas include environmental law, environmental policy, climate change, and the development of legal frameworks in relation to the State of Qatar. Mohammed’s qualitative doctoral research focus is on ecological resilience and environmental decision-making within the legislative, judicial, and executive bodies.

Mohammed's initial interest in the field of environmental law stemmed from the knowledge that regulatory frameworks over time the progressive factor in environmental policy of all kinds. The context of his positionality, as it emerged to him after attending United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) which resulted in Paris Agreement, revolved around the power of international environmental law and international treaties to change the narratives of jurisdiction and environmental law-making. With the international and local natural resources exploration in Qatar and the large structural changes in the various states, astute environmental regulation and governance become relevant in these changing times.
