Sanjay Vashishtha

Biography

Mr. Sanjay Vashishtha is a LL.M in Comparative law from McGill University Canada and MSc in Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford. He is a practicing attorney at the Supreme Court of India and a visiting lecturer of Criminal Law at Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida and the course instructor of Criminology at Eastern Book Company.

He is actively informed in various human rights projects and policing reforms across India. He is the professional member of the Indian Police Institute and promotes the implementation of ‘evidence-based policing’ across India. Other than providing pro bono legal services to various NGO’s and individuals, he has been a part of land mark court decisions. He has also founded his own think tank based in New Delhi called Disability Rights & Mental Health Research Foundation India with a quest to address wrongful convictions and provide better access to criminal justice system for persons with disabilities.

His MSc thesis titled ‘A Critical study of abrogation of privileged communication in Canada and its implications in criminology’ was published in the International Journal of Criminology & Sociological Theory (York University). Sanjay’s interests include sentencing, restorative justice, evidence law, criminal justice policy and evidence-based policing. He has reached out to atleast 4000 students/law students across India through various institutions to promote awareness on gender-based violence and acid attacks in particular.
