Steve Nettlemill
Position Description
The Head of Digital Transformation will plan and lead the implementation of the Law Faculty’s 3-year Digital Transformation (‘DT’) programme. This will aim to further automate and digitise its operations, processes, and services; integrating with existing university platforms and optimising the opportunities offered by Oxford University’s wider DT programme. This will build on a separate project already begun to streamline and document the Faculty’s processes, led by our Head of Continuous Improvement, Vincent Bryce. The outputs of the Change Management and DT projects will support the Faculty in the fulfilment of its objectives in the Law Faculty Strategy, ‘Shared Ambitions’. The focus of the DT programme will initially be on PSS functionality, and a key element of the success of the digital transformation will be to create effective interfaces for academics and students.
1. Strategic Direction
Overall strategic direction for the digital transformation project will be provided by the Digital Programme Board.
2. Change Management
Head of Digital Transformation will work in close partnership with the Change Manager - who will be responsible for leading the Faculty’s change and Continuous Improvement agenda - to lead and manage DT projects supporting these aims.
Head of Digital Transformation will be a member of the Law Faculty Digital Board, which provides the context for the direction and prioritisation of the Faculty’s digital requirements.
3. Stakeholder engagement
For example:
Act as the main point of contact for DT project-related activities.
Establish an internal community of practice where representatives from Law Faculty PSS functional teams can share knowledge, learn about new tools and technologies, and support each other in driving innovation.
Facilitate stakeholder workshops and meetings to gather feedback, resolve issues, address concerns, and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
4. Compliance and Governance
- Ensure all DT and digital project management activities comply with University regulations, data protection laws, and relevant standards.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation, including policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Oversee the development of Law Faculty best practice guidance to staff concerning the deployment of digital tools.
5. Data-Driven Initiatives
The Head of Digital Transformation will develop a data strategy and help teams leverage data more effectively for reporting and decision-making, taking advantage of new process maps and documented operating procedures; and find ways to integrate existing systems to provide a clearer data picture.
