Research Assistant in Law & Computer Science

Professor Rebecca Williams is looking for a research assistant to help with the writing of a textbook on Law & Computer Science. The role will entail keeping in contact with the various contributing authors, keeping on top of the referencing, and keeping the project on schedule.

Tasks for the research assistant will include: contacting contributing authors, managing referencing software, liaising with publishers and general project management. This is a unique opportunity to assist with a ground-breaking piece of research, funded by Barclays Eagle Labs.

 

Duration and hours

Total number of hours of work available: 60

The work will fluctuate; more hours will be necessary at the beginning and end of the project, with regular checks in between.

Start date: 14 October 2022

Date by which the work must be completed: 1 October 2023

Requirements

  • A knowledge of the field of law and technology is desirable.
  • Experience of using referencing software is highly desirable.
  • It is possible for the work to be done remotely.
  • The ability to be proactive and interact politely with contributing authors is vital.
  • It is also vital that the person appointed is able to be organised, maintain momentum and deliver results to schedule.

 

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to current graduate students in the Law Faculty and the Department of Computer Science. The hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students in the Faculty of Law. It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK.

 

Rate of Pay

The work will be paid at £16.07 per hour (which equates to University Grade 6, point 1), on the basis of completed and approved timesheets, which must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the end of each calendar month for payment on the last working day of the following month.

In addition, annual leave will be assumed to be taken in the month in which it was accrued.

This position is funded by a donation from Eagle Labs.

Guidelines for Faculty members, line managers and students

Work must not commence without a letter of engagement or variable hours contract and a right to work check having been carried out by the Faculty Personnel Officer.

Full-time graduate students in the Faculty of Law may work up to 8 hours per week, or a common sense average across the year, regardless of the type of work.

Students may not work as Research Assistants for their own supervisor without the approval of the Associate Dean for Graduate Students.
