Research Assistant, new editions of Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort and Benjamin’s Sale of Goods

Internal Applicants Only

Deadline: 30 June 2023

Professors James Goudkamp and Donal Nolan are looking for a research assistant to help with Winfield & Jolowicz on Tort and Benjamin’s Sale of Goods.

The project aims are to carry out work in connection with forthcoming editions of those books.

Tasks for the Research Assistant will be, principally, to locate relevant recent case law.  This will mainly involve searching Westlaw/LexisNexis for material cases delivered since the previous editions of the works concerned were published in order that they can be considered by Professors Nolan and Goudkamp. The research assistant might also be asked to highlight certain cases and passages therein as being particularly salient. It is possible that the assistant would also be asked to carry out a similar exercise as regards secondary sources.

Duration and hours

Working hours: a total of up to 90 hours across the duration of the project, to be agreed with the project supervisor.

Start date: 7 July 2023

Date by which the work must be completed: 28 September 2023, or 12 weeks after start date.

Reporting

The Research Assistant will report to, principally, Professor Nolan.

Requirements

  • A good understanding of the field of tort law and contract law is essential
  • A knowledge of key legal databases such as Westlaw/Lexis is essential.

This opportunity is open to current graduate students in the Faculty of Law, and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students within the Law Faculty.

It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK.

Rate of Pay

The work will be paid at £17.02 per hour (including the exceptional non-consolidated uplift for 2022-23), which equates to University Grade 6, point 1, on the basis of completed and approved timesheets, which must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the last Friday of each calendar month for payment on the last working day of the following month.

In addition, paid annual leave will be assumed to be taken in the month in which it was accrued.
