Research Assistant(s) in Competition Law to support the ‘Value of Competition’ programme

Professor Ariel Ezrachi is looking for one or two research assistants to help with the development of the ‘The Value of Competition’ pro bono programme.

The programme is dedicated to educating secondary school students and young adults about the benefits of competition and the role of competition enforcement. It aims to support the creation of a ‘competition culture’ around the world. This is done by engaging volunteers (with background in competition law and policy) in developed and developing economies and helping them prepare presentations to be delivered within the wider community.

Tasks for the Research Assistant(s) will be help with the preparation of power point presentation and learning support documents, creating a new website and administrating the programme.

 

Duration and hours

Working hours: It is expected that in the first few weeks, the RA will be required to dedicate up to 40 hours to develop materials and establish the website. Subsequently, a limited number of hours per month may be needed to help administer the programme and update the website (maximum 100 hours).

Start date: 8 December 2022

Date by which the work must be completed: 30 June 2023

The Research Assistant will report to Ariel Ezrachi

 

Requirements

  • A good understanding of the field of Competition Law is desirable.
  • A knowledge of web design is desirable.
  • Experience of video editing is desirable.

 

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to current graduate students at the University of Oxford.

It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK. 

 

Rate of Pay

The work will be paid at £16.49 per hour (which equates to University Grade 6, point 1), on the basis of completed and approved timesheets, which must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the last Friday of each calendar month for payment on the last working day of the following month.

In addition, annual leave will be assumed to be taken in the month in which it was accrued.

Guidelines for Faculty members, line managers and students

Work must not commence without a letter of engagement or variable hours contract and a right to work check having been carried out by the Faculty Personnel Officer.

Full-time graduate students in the Faculty of Law may work up to 8 hours per week, or a common sense average across the year, regardless of the type of work.

Students may not work as Research Assistants for their own supervisor without the approval of the Associate Dean for Graduate Students.
