Researcher, Centre for Socio-Legal Studies
Reporting to Dr Florian Grisel, the successful applicant will be a member of a research group with responsibility for a project funded by the Wikimedia Research Fund on “Codifying Digital Behavior Around the World: A Socio-Legal Study of the Wikimedia Universal Code of Conduct”
The postholder will select, follow and adapt specialist methodologies to confirm or refute theories, and identify suitable alternatives where information or research material is restricted; contribute to the design of research materials and make arrangements for data gathering; gather, analyse, and present qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, particularly: concerning the ongoing discussions and debates in Wikimedia communities concerning the codification of the Universal Code of Conduct and its enforcement; review the AI-generated transcripts of ca 20 interviews conducted in English; transcribe ca five interviews conducted in French and contribute to research publications, book chapters and reviews, particularly: the drafting and publication on MetaWiki: Research of two interim reports (November 2023 and February 2024) and a final report (May 2024).
The successful candidate will hold a first degree in law, sociology and/or political science; working toward a doctorate in law, sociology, or socio-legal studies; ability to manage own research and administrative activities; excellent communication skills, including the ability to write text that can be published; experience of following and adapting methodologies and fluency in French (written and oral).
This post is part time (0.2 FTE) and fixed term until 31 May 2024. The postholder will be based at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, Faculty of Law, Manor Road Building, OX1 3UQ
