UNIQ Graduate Assistants 2023
The UNIQ Law team is looking to recruit 3 Graduate Assistants made up of 1 lead Graduate Assistant and 2 other Graduate Assistants to assist with the teaching for UNIQ 2023. This work is funded by the University UNIQ team.
UNIQ is one of the summer schools offered by the Faculty of Law scheduled to run over two weeks,
25 -28 June 2023 then on 2 July –5 July 2023. With 45 students attending each week in person at the Faculty of Law.
The program is designed to encourage, inform, and prepare students who are interested in applying to Study Law at the University of Oxford who come from an Access background. Graduate Assistants will be working with group of approximately 45 or smaller groups of 15 students over the following sessions:
- How to prepare for tutorials
- Tutorials
- Introduction to Mooting / Introduction to Mock Trial
- Moot / Mock Trial
With the Lead Graduate Assistant running these additional sessions.
- Lectures and Tutorials What, How and Why. A session designed to help students understand the purpose of lectures and tutorials and how they fit together.
- Seminar
- Practice Tutorials
- Intro Mooting / Mock trail
Duration and hours
Total number of hours of work available:
2 x Graduate Assistants: 10.5 hours each of teaching time (plus 30 minutes preparation time per teaching contact hour)
1 x Lead Graduate Assistant: 19.5 hours of teaching time (plus 30 minutes preparation time per teaching contact hour)
Start date: 25th June 2023
Date by which the work must be completed: 5th July 2023
Reporting
The Graduate assistants will report to will report to Tasneem Hussain, Access Officer
Requirements
- A general understanding of the field of law is essential.
- Experience running tutorials (or equivalent relevant experience)
- Experience running admissions interviews (or equivalent relevant experience)
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of Undergraduate study at The University of Oxford
- Previous experience working on access and outreach programs.
- A background relatable to access.
- Experience of Mooting
- Experience running Mock Trials
Eligibility
This position is open to current graduate research students in the Law Faculty and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students. It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK.
Rate of Pay
Graduate Assistant Lecture/Teaching rate: £19.02 per hour plus 30 mins of prep time which is equivalent to a grade 7.1. In addition, paid annual leave will be assumed to be taken in the month in which it was accrued.*
This is a UNIQ rate of pay, and will be paid by the Faculty on the basis of completed and approved timesheets, which must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the last Friday of each calendar month for payment on the last working day of the following month.
