3 x Moot Coaches (Helga Pedersen Moot, Price Media Law Moot and Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot)

The Faculty of Law is seeking to appoint coaches to advice and support Oxford’s teams competing in the following three moots:
- Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition 2021/22 (previously known as the ELSA Human Rights Moot Court Competition 2021/22)
- Monroe E Price Media Law Moot Court Competition 2021/22
- Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2021/22
Outline of Role
The responsibilities of the coach include but are not limited to:
- providing the team with general instruction on the basics of human rights law/ media law/ international commercial arbitration law, research sources, and methods;
- providing general advice on memorial writing and oral advocacy techniques;
- organising and recruiting judges for participation in practice moots;
- managing the moot budget;
- supporting the team through all stages of the competition; and
- other organisational and administrative responsibilities for participation in the competition.
Selection Criteria
This role is ideal for postgraduate students with a strong interest in human rights law, media law or international commercial arbitration law, as the case may be. Applicants with experience in mooting and excellent organisational and communication skills will be preferred.
Duration and Work Hours
Total number of hours of work available: up to 53 hours per coach
Coach for the Monroe E Price Media Law Moot Court Competition 2021/22

- End date: 8 April 2022
Coach for the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2021/22
- Start date: 8 November 2021
- End date: 14 April 2022
Coach for the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition 2021/22
- Start date: 8 November 2021
- End date: 13 May 2022
Rate of Pay
Each coach will be paid at Grade 6, point 1, which equates to £15.60 per hour, plus holiday pay of £2.67 per hour worked.
Reporting
The coaches will report to Dr Hayley Hooper and Dr Luke Rostill, who are the Law Faculty’s Mooting Officers.
Eligibility
This role is open to current graduate students (with a background in law) in the University of Oxford and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students at the Faculty of Law (8 hours per week in total or a reasonable average over the term of appointment).

Approval of the Associate Dean for Research Students is required for any graduate student to work for their supervisor (here Dr Hayley Hooper or Dr Luke Rostill).
Graduate students in the Faculty of Law may work up to 8 hours per week, or a reasonable average across the year.
