Starting Grants: for PIs between two and seven years post PhD. Funding is for up to €1.5m over five years

ERC grants provide funding to support excellent investigators and their research teams to pursue ground-breaking, high-gain/high-risk research. Projects can be up to five years in length. The research project is decided by the applicant and can be in any field of research.

Researchers can be of any nationality, with 2-7 years of experience since completion of PhD, a scientific track record showing great promise and an excellent research proposal.

An additional €0.5m can be requested if the application involves: the purchase of major equipment; access to large facilities; or eligible start-up costs for a PI moving from outside Europe to take up their ERC grant.
